Super Shakira leaps to national glory




Maiden Erlegh pupil Shakira Whight produced a record-breaking performance to win a gold medal at the Sainsbury’s English Schools Track and Field Championships.

The 18-year-old won the senior girls’ triple jump with a leap of 12.76cm.

She was one of six Reading Athletic Club members competing at Gateshead last weekend and there was also a bronze medal for Natalie Beale in the 300m hurdles.

Whight went into the competition as favourite, but that didn’t unnerve her as she produced the goods from the word go.

“I wanted to get a good jump in early, so to get a first round personal best was great.” she said.

“I only came fifth last year but have shown a lot of dedication over the winter and all my hard work has paid off.”

Her winning jump was a new Reading AC under-20 record.

It caps an amazing eight months for Whight, who since the turn of the year has won the Berkshire outdoor title, Southern indoor and outdoor triple jump titles, won bronze in the
National indoor championships and silver in the national outdoor championships.

She must be a serious contender for a place in GB’s squad for the 2012 Olympics.

Three other Berkshire runners also returned from Gateshead with gold medals.

Bracknell College student Adam Moore won the under-19 800m with a time of 1 minute 51.93 seconds

Fashion show for Gorgeous girls Yana gupta




Get Gorgeous 5’s grand finale was celebrated with a party and a fashion show where the contestants dazzled in designer duo Rahul Khanna and Rohit Gandhi’s latest line. Get Gorgeous is a platform to search and develop fashion modeling talent, generating successful supermodels and beauty pageant winners. The fashion show showcased the girls for one last time before three contestants were taken for a photo shoot to Paris , the fashion capital of the world. The shoot, which is for a premiere haute couture luxury brand, will be an exclusive splash feature in L’Officiel, the international magazine for style, runaway coverage and fashion trends. The winner who will walk away with a Rs 1 million contract with Channel [v] and ICE Model Management will be announced on July 25.

Fearless moms
Of the thirteen celebrity girls on Fear Factor- Khatron Ke Khiladi. Pooja Bedi and Aditi Gowatrikar are the two yummy mums. Weren’t they apprehensive leaving their children behind to participate in the adventure show? “No,” says Pooja who feels you have to lead by example. Aditi, however, confesses that her daughter was reluctant to let her go. “She said, it will be very scary,” smiles the attractive model. But being adventerous and sportsy, she took it up. “Except the part where we had to shoot with the creepy crawlies I enjoyed it,” grins Aditi who is said to have created a record of some sorts on the show. But both unanimously declared Yana Gupta to be the most fearless girl of the lot.
